A brief summary from Multnomah:
It’s been a long time since Colt Stafford shrugged off his cowboy legacy for shiny Manhattan loafers and a promising career on Wall Street. But when stock market manipulations leave him financially strapped, the oldest son of legendary rancher Sam Stafford decides to return to the sprawling Double S ranch in Gray’s Glen, Washington. He’s broke, but not broken, and it’s time to check in with his ailing father, and get his legs back under him by climbing into the saddle again.
He doesn’t expect to come home to a stranger pointing a loaded gun at his chest— a tough yet beautiful woman that Sam hired as the house manager. Colt senses there’s more to Angelina Morales than meets the eye and he’s determined to find out what she’s hiding…and why.
Colt’s return brings new challenges. Younger brother Nick has been Sam’s right-hand man at the ranch for years and isn’t thrilled at having Colt insert himself into Double S affairs. And the ranch’s contentious relationship with the citizens of Gray’s Glen asks all the Stafford men to examine their hearts about what it truly means to be a neighbor.  And as Wall Street recovers, will Colt succumb to the call of the financial district’s wealth and power—or finally the courage to stay in the saddle for good?

My Thoughts:
When Colt Stafford exchanges Armani suits for cowboy garb, you know things are about to get downright interesting. After a major financial debacle, Colt leaves the fast-paced world of Wall Street and makes his way back home to the family’s ranch in Gray’s Glen, Washington – a place he void never to return to again. But the longer he stays at the ranch, the more it gets under his skin and Colt begins to enjoy the quiet pace of steering cattle, mending fences, renewing strained relationships, and flirting with the ranch cook, Angelina Morales. When a major storm hits Gray’s Glen and destroys a beloved church and countless homes, Colt rallies the townspeople to rebuild in ways they never imagined possible. But when an old flame comes calling with a job offer, Colt is hard-pressed to make a decision: head back to the money-hungry Wall Street as a comeback kid or continue what he started in Gray’s Glen by rebuilding the life he once had.

I absolutely loved Ruth Logan Herne modernized western twist to the Bible’s prodigal son story!! Colt is a man grown from hurting circumstances in need of healing, the kind only God can provide. As he hungers for acceptance, healing, and a father’s love, he struggles with letting the past be the past and moving forward.  The depth that Ruth Logan Herne writes with is outstanding. Back in the Saddle is the first book in the Double S Ranch series and I can not wait till the 2nd book comes out! If you love to read about cowboys and the wild west, I think you’ll completely adore Back in the Saddle!

I was graciously provided a free hard-copy of this novel from Blogging For Books exchange for an honest review.  I was not required to write a positive review and the opinions I have expressed are my own.

Kella, thank you so much for this review! What a wonderful thing, to take time from your busy day to do this. I’m honored! I love baking, too, it’s one of my therapies… that and coaxing flowers to bloom outside during our sweet but shorter Northern growing season! I was delighted to see this…. Bless you!
