A brief summary from Karen Witemeyer:
Grace Mallory is tired of running, of hiding. But when an old friend sends an after-hours telegraph transmission warning Grace that the man who has hunted her for nearly a year has discovered her location, she fears she has no choice. She can’t let the villain she believes responsible for her father’s death release his wrath in Harper’s Station, the town that has sheltered her and blessed her with the dearest friends she’s ever known.

Amos Bledsoe prefers bicycles to horses and private conversations over the telegraph wire to social gatherings with young ladies who see him as nothing more than an oddity. His telegraph companion, the mysterious Miss G, listens eagerly to his ramblings every night and delights him with tales all her own. For months, their friendship–dare he believe, courtship?–has fed his hope that he has finally found the woman God intended for him. Yet when he takes the next step to meet her in person, he discovers her life is in peril, and Amos must decide if he can shed the cocoon of his quiet nature to become the hero Grace requires.

My Thoughts:
Grace Mallory is on the run for her life. With her father shot before her eyes, Grace flees and finds refuge in an all-woman’s colony, Harper’s Station. Using her skills as a telegrapher, Grace settles in to her new life, enjoying the freedom and relief it brings, including Mr. A., a fellow telegrapher in a neighboring town. But soon Grace gets word that her hunters have located her, and the ladies of Harper’s Station get ready for the attack.

When Amos Bledsoe, “Mr. A.” hears that Grace is in trouble, he leaves everything behind and heads to Harper’s Station to offer his help. But when he arrives, he’s mistaken for the  hunter. How will this quite, bicycle riding, chivalrous man be of any assistance to the gun-hoe ladies of Harper’s Station, especially if he can’t get out of the jail cell they locked him in?

Karen Witemeyer has been one of my favorite authors for years – I think I have almost everything she’s written to date! When I think of historical romantic comedy, my mind immediately goes to her and a few other authors, I just love her works that much and Heart on the Line is no exception!

The thing I love most about Karen’s novels, besides the fact that they’re exceedingly well-written, is that her characters are vastly detailed and intricate. I’ll admit, I tend to clump all strong jawed, tall, dark-haired handsome hero into the same person when reading novels. They tend to look like a cross between Chris Pine and Zachary Levi (two swoon-worthy men right there!). And at first, I did the same for Amos Bledsoe until we got to the part about his spectacles and it was an immediate 180 in my brain. I mean, look at this handsome, nerdy, man – he’s SPECTACULAR! 😉

The more I read, the more I absolutely loved that Witemeyer didn’t brand him as every other hero we read about. Amos’ characteristics are adorable in that he is sensitive, caring, smart, pro-woman in the workplace, and has a devilish charm that sweeps Grace away. This is the guy who you could take home to your mama!

Heart on the Line will be a novel I re-read for years to come. Much like all the other novels and novellas I own of Karen’s works. 🙂 Grab a copy of this book today and settle in for a whirlwind romantic comedy. Or, click on the cover below for a chance to win a copy!
