A brief summary from Susan May Warren:
Champion backcountry snowboarder Gage Watson has left the limelight behind after the death of one of his fans. After being sued for negligence and stripped of his sponsorships, he’s remade his life as a ski patrol in Montana’s rugged mountains, as well as serving on the PEAK Rescue team. But he can’t seem to find his footing–or forget the woman he loved, who betrayed him.
Senator and former attorney Ella Blair spends much of her time in the limelight as the second-youngest senator in the country. But she has a secret–one that cost Gage his career. More than anything, she wants to atone for her betrayal of him in the courtroom and find a way to help him put his career back on track.
When Ella’s brother goes missing on one of Glacier National Park’s most dangerous peaks, Gage and his team are called in for the rescue. But Gage isn’t so sure he wants to help the woman who destroyed his life. More, when she insists on joining the search, he’ll have to keep her safe while finding her reckless brother, a recipe for disaster when a snowstorm hits the mountain.
But old sparks relight as they search for the missing snowboarder–and suddenly, they are faced with emotions neither can deny. But when Ella’s secret is revealed, can they learn to trust each other–even when disaster happens again?
I keep waiting for Susan May Warren to write something less than amazing and A Matter of Trust is not that book. I wasn’t sure how Gage’s story was going to come across after the brief mentions of him in the first two novels. In fact, I wasn’t sure if I really wanted to read a novel based on his story. But clearly I am glad that my first thoughts of this story had no bearing whatsoever because Gage “Watts” Watson may very well be my favorite character in the Montana Rescue series!
A pro snowboarder forced to give up his talent on the slopes for one more inclined to rescue people, Gage Watson regrets the choices that led him in his youth. Particularly the one that left a fellow snowboarder dead in his line. Now he takes to the slopes as a member of a PEAK rescue team to save others from that kind of demise. But when his old flame turns up on his mountain, its all Gage can do but board away as quickly as possible.
On a mission to stop her brother from stupidly boarding one of the toughest mountains around, Ella Blair finds herself on Outlaw Mountain again. But running into Gage Watson was not something she planned on. Ever. It was enough that she ruined his life years ago, but now they’re on the same slope again? To make matters worse, her brother has gone missing on the mountain and Ella must convince Gage to go after him…and let her join him in the search. But convincing Gage is the easy part in the whole adventure, and it will take God, wisdom, and experience to get them all off the mountain safely amidst snow storms, deathly cold temperatures, and avalanches.
I had a tough time putting this novel down. I mean, who actually needs to sleep or go to work when theres a good book in your hand, right? Right?! A Matter of Trust is the non-stop action and adventure novel you’ve been waiting for. Gage is a swoon-worthy, guilt-ridden hero who you’ll be rooting for the entire time. I mean, just look at that cover model!! Sighs all-around, yea? 🙂 This series has been one of my absolute favorites of Susan May Warren so far and I can not wait to see what happens next in book four, Troubled Waters, which is Ian and Seirra’s story! Watching their story unfold over the past three books has been unnerving and I’m itchy with anticipation over their will-they won’t-they storyline! Troubled Waters doesn’t release until January 2018 (soooo far away!!!) but in the meantime, I can re-read these amazing three books over and again until then. And If you’re totally enticed to read A Matter of Trust, then head over to Books and Broomsticks who is offering an insanely awesome G I V E A W A Y!!! Click on the photo below to head to the contest – but hurry because its over on July 16!
I was graciously provided a free copy of this novel from Revell in exchange for an honest review. I was not required to write a positive review and the opinions I have expressed are my own.
