A brief summary from Carolyn Miller:
Can a very proper noble lady find a future with a fossil-hunting man of faith?

As the daughter of Viscount Aynsley, Caroline Hatherleigh knows every rule of society—and she’s always followed them precisely. It’s simply the way things are done in her world. When she visits south Devonshire and encounters a fossil-hunting scientist and his sister, her assumptions about what is right are shaken. She is suddenly confronted by questions she has never considered about the importance of friendship and faith—and her comfortable understanding about how the world works is thrown off balance.

Gideon Kirby loves science, and hunting down proof of past lives is a joy he won’t willingly give up. But his scientific leanings are being challenged by both his personal beliefs and by local smugglers in the Devonshire countryside. And every day his sister’s illness is becoming more desperate and her care grows more demanding. Adding a proper Viscount’s daughter to the mix is a complication Gideon never expected—especially since he has a secret that demands he stays far away from this young woman he’s falling for in order to protect his beloved sister.

When a mysterious stranger visits the village, that secret is set to be exposed, no matter how Gideon fights. Then tragedy strikes in a smugglers cave. And the threat of scandal may lead to broken hearts and passionless propriety. Will the shaky bond these two have managed to build be strong enough to overcome their differences—or will the trust they’ve withheld from each other end up tearing three lives apart?

My Thoughts:
I always get excited when I hear Carolyn Miller has a new book releasing and when I saw the cover for A Hero for Miss Hatherleigh, I knew it would be a must read!

Ya’ll, this book did not disappoint!

With a very prim and proper young lady on the rim of scandal (due to her male friend seen escorting a married woman about town), Caroline Hatherleigh is sent away to live with there grandmother in attempts to avoid any more gossip. But the Devonshire countryside is utterly lacking compared to the high society she just left, and Caroline is, perhaps for the first time, left utterly to her own thoughts and opinions. Which leaves her contemplating exactly what is important in life and the beliefs she holds to be of value. When Caroline stumbles upon a rather roguish, fossil-hunting scientist, she realizes her banishment might not be as awful as she initially thought.

Gideon Kirby dreams of the day he’ll stumble upon a grand historic discovery of an ancient creature fossilized and fully intact, much like his scientific counterparts. Hunting down such a discovery amidst growing concern of smugglers in the area only adds to heighten the stakes. Meeting Caroline Hatherleigh might be a distraction Gideon can’t afford…yet, his very noisy sister can’t help but create situations to drawn them closer.

If you love stories set in the Regency era, A Hero for Miss Hatherleigh is sure to be a favorite! Grab a copy and be sure to check out Carolyn’s other novels if you haven’t read them yet!

I was graciously provided a free copy of this novel from Kregel Publications in exchange for an honest review.  I was not required to write a positive review and the opinions I have expressed are my own.
