A brief summary from Bethany House:
Thirty suitors, six months of courting . . .
would it be enough time for her to fall in love?
Willow Dupré never thought she would have to marry, but with her father’s unexpected retirement from running the prosperous Dupré sugar refinery, she is forced into a different future. The shareholders are unwilling to allow a female to take over the company without a man at her side, so her parents devise a plan–find Willow a spokesman king in order for her to become queen of the business empire.
Willow is presented with thirty potential suitors from the families of New York society’s elite group called the Four Hundred. She has six months to court the group and is told to to eliminate men each month to narrow her beaus until she chooses one to marry, ending the competition with a wedding. Willow reluctantly agrees, knowing she must do what is best for the business. She doesn’t expect to find anything other than a proxy . . . until she meets a gentleman who captures her attention, and she must discover for herself if his motives are pure.
If you are a fan of dating shows like The Bachelor or The Bachelorette, then this book is for you!
Set in the Gilded Age, Willow Dupré’s family is the top leader in sugar. From a young age, she has been groomed to run her family’s sweet empire, only there’s a small hitch – she’s a woman. And the all-male board has major issues with this fact. To ease the minds of the board, her parents hatch a 6 month plan filled with 30 suitors, fabulous balls, outdoor adventures, and more in order to find their darling daughter a husband. What’s a gal to do but go along with the game when her dream is at stake?
This was a really fun and entertaining read and I found myself laughing out loud quite often. I loved Willow’s determination to achieve her goals, even if it meant reluctantly finding a husband. Also, those suitors – wow. Talked about a varied bunch of men! I would have been running for the hills if my parents picked some of them as my suitors! But I’m really glad with how the book turned out in the end.
I am quite looking forward to reading more of Grace Hitchcock’s works; especially whenever she comes out with Book 2 of the American Royalty series! This is an author to watch, ya’ll.
I was graciously provided a free copy of this novel from Bethany House, and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. I was not required to write a positive review and the opinions I have expressed are my own.
